While we were on our trip, I read "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini. I'm posting because it is definately the most moving and enlightening book I have read in a very very long time. I was hesitant to read it because everyone has been telling me how sad and depressing the book was, and I try to steer clear of overly sad books. But Kristine sent me a link a while ago to a girl who writes a blog reviewing books she reads, and she raved about this one. So I rented it out of the local library--and I'm so glad I did. It IS a profoundly sad book, but I feel that it had a lot of good things to say. I couldn't put it down! I was so glad that finally a popular book came out and told the story of those people in Afghanistan who are NOT terrorists, who are just as horrified at what is happening to their country as we are. But it gives you a look into the life of one such person. It has an amazing story to tell! I learned a lot from it. Afghanistanians themselves are not a violent people- but they do have very big problems with their society. Anyways, too much for me to describe. Just read it if you haven't already, then give me a call and we'll talk. :) Love you all! Love, Kat.
