Some Spare Time

I took six days off work for the baby. My primary assignment was to keep the other three kids occupied so that Lindsay and Reese could get some rest. Alexa and Mom were a HUGE help with this as well and we owe much of Lindsay's great recovery so far to the fact that she has been able to get some sleep. Thank you Alexa and Mom. So as part of my 'assignment' :-) I recruited Dad and we took a day trip.

Our first stop was the Salt River (Dad thought of this and it was a great idea). The river is running really strong and the kids, Dad, and I had a great time wading around, swimming, and skipping rocks.

After we had our fill of the river we jumped in the truck and headed to Payson where stopped in a Taco Bell and then on to Woods Canyon Lake. The weather was perfect - overcast for most of the day and no hotter then 80. We saw a bald eagle and several Osprey. The kids caught 30-40 crawdads using a short piece of line, a hook, and a piece of worm. They entertained some other kids that come to fish with their crawdad production process. There were about 7 kids along with Dad and I trying to fish off the same rock. Dad was a good sport but finally gave up and headed for a lower traffic area 10 or 15 feet away. Amid the all the noise and craziness we managed to hook and land 6 trout - two of which were above average for that lake. Here is a shot of the rock we all loved. And one more picture at the end of the fishing. We wrapped up the day with a stop at Subway - where the kids wooed a couple of local elderly ladies with their usual little kid antics. Porter and Mayley both start school on Monday so we wanted to do something fun today as a last hurra before school. I woke the kids up at 7:00 (after they were up late watching a 'scary' movie that kept some of them up later than we wanted) and we headed out to Power Ranch and as usual it didn't disappoint.

Porter hooked this guy within about 2 minutes of us getting there. I love to watch the kids fight these fish. I don't know what this fish weighed but it was big enough to pull Porter around for a few minutes.
Mayley hooked this whooper part way through the morning. We had one like this break our line the last time we were out so we took our time getting it in. Mayley was worn out by the end of a five or so minute fight wrestling this horse to shore. All in all it was a great trip.
I realize that most of what I post to the blog is either a fishing trip or some other trip to the outdoors, but I do manage to fit a few other things in when I am not afield. I took the GMAT the morning of 7/17 and managed to score well enough to get into ASU's evening MBA program - which starts on 8/19. I also took a new position as manager of the group I have been in for the last 5 1/2 years.
Our house search continues. We feel very blessed that the Lord helped us sell our other home and that Whitney and Michael have been kind enough to let us stay in their home while we look for something else. Nate has been a huge help with our search and we feel confident that we will find what we are looking for. We also feel blessed to have such a wonderful family who provides so much support in so many ways. Thanks for all you do. You are wonderful.

Those kids are so lucky to have you as a dad and Grandpa you are ever the spoiler. Linds. I am especially glad you got some sleep.

I noted that the fish May caught looked like an ASU fish. You guys changing mascots? JK

Those two children are sure like their Dad...big fishermen & women! BA's husband will come and see you and love every minute! We are not fishermen...we watch them swim by and not even a nibble! You're children are lucky to have such a terrific Dad.
