Lets be honest, first birthdays are always more about the parents than the child. But the way we look at it, a celebration is in order because one, Thomas survived our momentous inexperience and two, we survived the loss of hundreds of hours of sleep (mainly Kristine). We feel so blessed however, that Thomas is healthy, happy (about half the time), energetic, smart and extremely inquisitive. You get the impression when observing Thomas that he does not want to miss a second of life. Even from his birth he has been an eyes wide open observer. Sometimes I wish I knew what he was thinking because you can see the wheels turning in his head (it probably goes something like "wow my parents are weird, why are they making those faces at me?). We feel so humbled and lucky to have Thomas in our home.
Anyway, we had a little party for Thomas which we had alone because he is a little under the weather. He was pretty cranky because he in not feeling well but we still had fun. We gave him chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. He wasn't crazy about it which make me wonder if Thomas is really my son. Here our some pictures of our special day.

I love seeing the picture when he was a newborn next to his current pics. It's miraculous, isn't it? He is just too adorable and I miss him. Happy Birthday Thomas! Get better soon. Auntie Em
PS. We must blame the chocolate thing on his current state of illness. ????
I love the chocolate cake picture. What a cute little shaver.
I can't believe how fast the year has gone by. He is so cute! I love the pictures especially his excitement with the cake. He will learn to love chocolate, right?! Birthdays are so great! I hope he gets feeling better soon and I'm sure you do too so you can get some sleep.
happy birthday t-man! we miss you guys!
Hey Kev & Kristine,
Found your site on the family blog. Thomas is beyond adorable, love the B-day pics! Thought I would fill you in on the subject of chocolate in the Preston family. There are those that have an addiction, sounds like you might be one, like your mom and grandpa Don. There are those that can't "hold" their chocolate...ask Brandon, Will was diagnosed as allergic, and in the words of grandma, “it makes them meaner than a striped snake!” And, then there are some of us that just hate the taste, maybe Thomas fits into that category. I cried over birthday cakes for years because of the flavor. It might be fun to experiment and see what group he fits! Hope all is well there, we especially send warm weather wishes!
